Things are beginning to buzz in the vineyard and the winery these days. I am so grateful that our vines were able to get a lengthy dormancy this winter. The vines are pruned, always the first sign for me of the new vintage. Last year we saw bud break the last week of February. This year it looks like it will be the first or second week of March. I'm eagerly awaiting Vintage 2013. I've been keeping busy at the winery preparing the Bedrock Chardonnay, Rose of Pinot Noir and Riesling for bottling next month. We're also preparing the 2012 Cork Jumper Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs and Demi-Sec for tirage. Lots of action! Where have the last 2 months gone? I hope to see you out at the tasting room. Cheers!
In the Vineyard
We have completed pruning and final preparations for frost control over the past few months. Bud break is happening across the ranch at various levels which is one of my favorite times of the year. The vineyard is all cleaned up, and we are making a mowing pass through the cover crop. I'm eagerly awaiting both the first leaves of the season and the first look at our clusters. The next month is a great time to come out, have a glass of wine and enjoy the beginning of the 2013 vintage!
